The Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD) is proudly launched by the Newcastle Australia Institute of Higher Education, a wholly-owned entity of the University of Newcastle, Australia. Leveraging the University’s strengths in research, knowledge, and action, the CSD is dedicated to driving impactful sustainability initiatives. Guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Singapore’s 2030 Green Plan and Zero Waste Masterplan, and the Singapore- Australia Green Economy Agreement, the CSD aims to contribute to a sustainable future by leading sustainability initiatives that results in real change across research, industry, government and community.
Our Objectives
Greetings! As I write this message, the most anticipated climate conference – COP28 held in Dubai, has just completed. Climate change is an existential threat for humanity and our fragile ecosystem. Pollution and biodiversity loss are contributing to our planetary collapse.
Welcome to the Anthropocene Age! It is certainly timely to announce the opening of our Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD). Drawing on the strengths of the University of Newcastle (Australia), the CSD is focused on achieving climate resiliency, attain optimal food security, and meet specific United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Key SDGs include: 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing), 4 (Quality Education), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 13 (Climate Action) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals)
We are keen in collaborating with our key stakeholders – Research, Industry, Government and our Community – to provide innovative solutions to our Sustainability challenges.
As you look through our website, I encourage you to connect with us.
Best wishes,
Associate Professor Charles Lee
CSD Director
